Awarded the Prize for the Best Doctoral Thesis on CSR / Sustainability

The Rectorate of the University of Malaga hosted on March 21 of 2019 the Award Ceremony for the Best Doctoral Thesis on Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, convened, in its sixth edition, by the Santander Chair of CSR of the University of Malaga, sponsored by Banco Santander.

 

 

 

The first prize, worth 2,500 euros, was won by Jesús Valero Gil, for his doctoral thesis entitled “The firm‘s pro-environmental change process. Stakeholders, organizational design and economic performance ” defended at the University of Zaragoza.

 

 

The Accesit has fallen to Jaime González Masip, for the thesis defended in the Complutense University of Madrid entitled “Effects of corporate social and environmental responsibility practices in attracting and retaining talent”.

 

In addition, the jury has decided to grant two Special Mentions to the thesis that has been in third and fourth place in the assessments, given its high scientific quality. These mentions have been awarded to Juan Pablo Sánchez-Infante Hernández, for his doctoral thesis “The influence of corporate social responsibility on the economic results of micro, small and medium enterprises” defended at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, and Sandra Castro González, from the University of Lugo, for her doctoral thesis “Corporate social responsibility from the perspective of the sales force: Antecedents and consequences”.

The Award Ceremony was attended by the rector of the University of Málaga, José Ángel Narváez, accompanied by Luis Monge, director of Sustainability of the division  Institutional Relations, Communication and Sustainability Santander España division; Patricia Benavides, on behalf of the General Foundation of the University of Málaga; José Emilio Navas, Professor of Business Organization of the Complutense University of Madrid and Cristina Quintana, Director of the Chair.

The rector has highly appreciated the public-private collaboration that this Chair has, as well as the “selfless support to invest in the talent” of its sponsor.

This prize constitutes an original initiative, unprecedented in the national scope. Its objective is to encourage and promote the development of quality research related to Corporate Social Responsibility. The award may be applied by doctoral theses defended in 2017 in any Spanish university that are related to CSR and sustainability. This year, 10 theses, made from very different areas of knowledge, have been candidate to the prize. 

For the evaluation of the dissertations, a jury has been constituted by members representing the academic and business world, with the aim of assessing not only the scientific and methodological rigor of the works, but also the extent to which they constitute a useful contribution for the companies, organizations and for society.

The Santander Chair of Corporate Social Responsibility of the University of Malaga was created in April 2012 thanks to the sponsorship of Banco Santander. Its objective is to develop training activities, research and transfer of results on aspects related to the three areas of Social Responsibility: economic, social and environmental.
